Celebrating together safely at BIFF 2020

We’re welcoming audiences back for an unmissable season of cinema this October and taking extra steps to prioritise the health and wellbeing of all.

Please follow COVID Safe practices when attending BIFF 2020 films and events.

Information on this page is subject to change, and will be updated when required in line with government guidelines.

Are you feeling unwell?

To protect yourself and your community, BIFF 2020 asks audience members to stay home and not attend Festival screenings and events if:

  • You have experienced symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue or shortness of breath in the last 14 days
  • You or a member of your household has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
  • You or a member of your household has travelled overseas in the past 30 days
  • You or a member of your household has travelled to a COVID-19 hotspot in Australia in the past 30 days

Each BIFF 2020 venue has the right to refuse entry, and patrons will be asked to leave if displaying COVID-19 symptoms.

Cleaning and Hygiene

Remember to wash your hands frequently and practice good hand hygiene. We have increased cleaning frequency, including thoroughly cleaning cinemas and touch points before and after each screening. Hand sanitiser is available at hygiene stations, and signage and distance markers for queuing have been implemented to help maintain social distancing and keep you safe.

Please visit our cinema and venue partner websites below to learn more about each venue’s COVID Safe plans.

Booking and Tickets

COVID-safe seating is being managed differently across our venues, while still meeting Queensland Health guidelines. Sessions at Elizabeth Picture Theatre, New Farm Six Cinemas, State Library of Queensland and Reading Cinemas Newmarket  are general admission, with the venue managing COVID-safe seating on entry to the cinema.  At the Australian Cinémathèque, GOMA and Dendy Cinemas Coorparoo you will be required to select your seat when booking online, from the seating plan.

Please register the contact details of all guests in your social or household party, and observe physical distancing of 1.5m between your group and others. Contact details will only be used if contact tracing is required. We recommend our audience members download and run the COVIDSafe app.

Tickets can be presented on your mobile device or printed for contactless scanning on arrival.

Vulnerable patrons should seek medical advice before attending BIFF 2020.

If COVID-19 restrictions impact any of our screenings or events, BIFF 2020 will cancel the event and tickets will be refunded.

If you’re attending a screening at the Australian Cinémathèque, and would like to experience the exhibitions at QAG or GOMA before or after your screening, please check in separately with QAGOMA staff at the entrance to each Gallery.

Ensure your sessions and 6+ CINEPASS selections are correct prior to payment. There are no refunds on any items if you change your mind.

To keep BIFF 2020 COVID-safe, refunds will be provided if you are unwell and notify our ticketing agent, QTIX, in advance of your film screening:

Refunds will not be provided if you turn up at the event sick and are refused entry, or if you notify us after the film screening.
