A Man of Integrity(Lerd) Features
Writer-director Mohammad Rasoulof has been increasingly critical of the Iranian system, which he describes as a profoundly sick structure, and his A Man of Integrity is scathing.
Reza, a former school teacher dismissed from his position, has retreated with his wife and their young son to a village in the north of Iran to farm goldfish. His wife works beside him on the farm but also continues working as the principal at a local school. It’s very clear why they have relocated to the country: Reza cannot compromise his principles in the face of corruption. But it becomes evident that even in this remote location, concessions are required for survival. The film is a beautifully made plea from a filmmaker as uncompromising as his main character.
