A showbiz veteran sees his health seriously threatened by his mounting workload and personal failings.
Film director and choreographer Bob Fosse mounts a swirling autobiographical masterwork about Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), who grapples with his own mortality as he works himself to near death, mounting a Broadway musical by day and editing his new film by night. His personal life in shambles, he dives headfirst into his professional work, but the further he goes, the more he begins to deteriorate. As Fosse delves into the mind of his character, his inner world becomes a splash of theatrical splendour and visually playful meditation on the limits of the body.
