In a remote Australian town, a misunderstood girl forges a friendship with a wild emu in this beautifully shot and inspiring coming-of-age film.

Following the tragic loss of her mother, and with a father (Wayne Blair, The Sapphires 2012) who is grappling with his own grief, Gem Daniels seeks comfort in the bird of her ancestors. Gem’s new friend is a welcome distraction that keeps her from school, arousing the suspicions of her teachers and a dangerously naive social worker. Emu Runner is a 15-year collaboration between director Imogen Thomas and the entire Brewarrina community in northern New South Wales, resulting in a remarkable debut film that will capture your heart.
