A wickedly entertaining documentary about the rise and fall of Pepe the Frog, who went from stoner comic star to iconic meme of the alt-right.
When artist Matt Furie first conceived the character of Pepe the Frog for his online comic Boy’s Club, he could never have fathomed what would happen to his sweet and friendly creation. Turned into a meme by controversial internet messaging boards, Pepe would unexpectedly become the face of the racist alt-right movement, to whom Furie stood in opposition. Filmmaker Arthur Jones turns this bizarre real-life story into a colourful tragicomedy about the darkness of the internet and the perils of artists losing control of their work.
