Able to speak three languages and an apprentice healer within the Arrernte/ Garrwa community in Alice Springs, ten-year old Dujuan is at risk of expulsion from school.

Charismatic and smart, Dujuan struggles to navigate the divide between his heritage and the demands of the state education system. His failing grades and misbehaviour draw attention from the police and social services.

Meanwhile, the unfolding Don Dale detention centre scandal casts a shadow over his community. Filmed in collaboration with Dujuan and his family, Maya Newell’s follow-up to Gayby Baby 2015 is an intimate and urgent account of the pursuit of personal dignity and social justice for Indigenous youth in the Northern Territory.
