A tale of regret and redemption, Jirga tells the story of a former Australian soldier still haunted by the death of an unarmed man during a raid on a small village in Afghanistan three years prior.
Former soldier Mike (Sam Smith) sets off on a harrowing journey through war-torn Afghanistan to seek forgiveness from the victim’s family and to place his life in the hands of the village justice system, the Jirga. The logistical challenges faced by Mike along the way mirrors some of the experiences undergone by director Benjamin Gilmour and Smith who, after losing their funding on arrival in Pakistan, made the extraordinary decision to continue the film.
