Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky is a joyous and potent exploration of the Captain Cook legend and his arrival on Australian shores from a First Nation’s perspective.
To mark the 250th anniversary of Cook’s landing, the documentary gathers an impressive line-up of acclaimed Australian indigenous musicians including Daniel Rankine P.K.A. Trials, Mo’Ju and Birdz to create a contemporary songline. This songline is a musical journey that recounts a history which traverses the Australian landscape embracing themes of first contact, resistance, and language. While Cook is hailed as a heroic explorer, the reality of his arrival brought colonisation and genocide to this country’s shores. Steven Oliver guides the documentary with blisteringly powerful and articulate spoken word poetry and narration.
