Love Me NotNo M'estimis Setting the Stage
A stylish update of Oscar Wilde’s classic adaptation of the Biblical story of Salome.
Set against the backdrop of an allegorical Middle Eastern war, Love Me Not is the story of Salomé, a soldier and the daughter of Commander Antipas. She becomes entranced by a mysterious prisoner known as The Prophet, who is being held beneath the army base and wears a distinctive orange jumpsuit. Reminiscent of Claire Denis’s Beau Travail 1999, the mythic desert landscape becomes the stage for a modern fantasia of power and the erotic, violence and greed. Director Lluís Miñarro’s second feature is a salacious and absurd study of barbarism and its objects of desire.
