In Mexico City 45 public ambulances serve a population of over 9 million people, giving rise to a shadow industry of private operators.

Midnight Family is a gripping and kinetic documentary about the Ochoas — a father and two teen sons who operate one of these private ambulance services in Mexico City. In order to provide emergency care, they must contend with jam-packed city streets, a corrupt police force and an underfunded medical system. Tensions simmer as the Ochoas race to be the first on the scene while treating patients who can’t always afford to pay. Riveting and with a whole lot of heart, Midnight Family captures the high-stakes realities of Mexico City’s medical system and the ordinary citizens caught in the fray.
