A gripping and surprisingly heartwarming window into the nerve-wracking reality of having a loved one kidnapped.
In 1994, Miles Hargrove was at university when he received the news that his father, a scientific journalist researching high-yield rice, had been kidnapped by a drug cartel in Colombia. At the time, kidnapping, or ‘miracle-fishing’, was a common revenue-raising practice for the cartels. Constructed from many hours of home movie footage shot by Miles, the documentary follows the Hargrove family as they find out their father’s employer will not pay for his release and realise it’s up to them to negotiate with the cartel and somehow raise the exorbitant ransom.
