Chaos reigns amid a band of teen soldiers in this hallucinatory take on Lord of the Flies from Colombian director Alejandro Landes.
Monos is a visually stunning descent into madness in which a group of adolescent guerrilla fighters must keep watch over an American prisoner while dealing with both their own internal power struggles and their raging hormones. Forced from their idyllic mountain base, they escape to the jungle where tenuous loyalties begin to unravel in increasingly deadly ways. Drenched in vivid colour and powered by an immersive soundscape, Landes’s film is a stunning depiction of the collapse of power and the diminishing haze of innocence.
