Studying under Japanese horror master Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Yui Kiyohara’s debut boasts a compelling ghost story, an unworldly mystery, and a delicate family drama.
With precision, Kiyohara places her characters in the traditional Japanese space. Teenager Seri lives with her mother and longs for her estranged father. In the same house, Tōko, a woman in her 30s, takes in a boarder who can’t remember her name. As two independent storylines develop, worlds collide, the familial slips into the mysterious, strangeness deepens, and Kiyohara elicits an otherworldly sense of the uncanny and ominous.
