Tale of the Sea(HEKAYAT-E DARYA) Features
This delicate and quiet film, part family drama yet also an homage to older Iranian artists, comes from veteran director Bahman Farmanara.
Taher Mohebi, a famous, aging writer on the edge of schizophrenia, is finally exiting the institution where he has spent three years unable to face the world. His wife Jaleh informs the doctor that she will be filing for divorce, but she is persuaded to take him back to their home by the sea, where both past and present play themselves out. Jaleh has never forgiven Taher for his brief affair with her childhood friend, but both are shocked when a young woman born of the fling suddenly turns up one night. The film is dedicated to Abbas Kiarostami and displays that late master’s understanding of human relationships.
