Kate Winslet stars as Tilly Dunnage, a glamourous seamstress who travels from London to her small Australian hometown to care for her ailing mother and confront her dark past.

Tilly may be returning to a complicated relationship with her cantankerous mother (Judy Davis) and the malice of small-town gossip, but she has a secret talent to pave her way: her incredible ability to make beautiful clothes. As she crafts dresses for the women of the town, she forms friendships and raises the intrigue of the local police officer (Hugo Weaving), as well as a handsome new love interest (Liam Hemsworth). Based on Rosalie Ham’s novel, The Dressmaker is a quirky and warm-hearted delight, whose story is carefully guided by Jocelyn Moorhouse’s direction and Jill Bilcock’s nimble editing.
