Industry Day 1 – Wed 27 Oct

Session 1: Women in Film

Women hold key positions across the screen sector in Australia. Hear from key women at the helm and in positions of influence.

Session 2: The Brisbane Animation Industry —alive and kicking.

The Australian Animation Industry has come a long way, from its decidedly southern focus of yesteryear, working on local tv commercials and off-shore production for the bigger overseas players, to a now thriving decentralised domestic industry. While once Brisbane struggled to retain its talent, now the breadth of platforms, techniques, and (global) opportunities has shored up long-term Brisbane studios, and welcomed new players. What role has digital technology played in these developments? How has COVID impacted production? What future trends lay waiting? How might Brisbane animation studios capitalise on these opportunities?

Session 3: Lights, Camera, Action!

First Nations experience in filmmaking and the story of The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson.

Session 4: Sustaining the Self

60 mins panel discussion followed by 30 mins Q&A. Mental Health in the Screen Industry.
