That’s a Wrap!
Across 11 days, BIFF 2019 has celebrated contemporary international and Australian screen culture, bringing together a dynamic selection of films — new, restored, beloved — to celebrate the best of contemporary screen culture.
We’ve showcased stand-out live music and film events, paired food with poignant storytelling, held captivating conversations with filmmakers and creative professionals and celebrated diversity and change across the film sector in Queensland and the world.
Just some of the highlights included our opening night and Queensland premiere of Judy & Punch 2019, the highly anticipated debut feature from Australian director and actor Mirrah Foulkes; the heart-achingly beautiful Honeyland 2019 and it’s accompanying honey-themed dining experience at the GOMA Restaurant, and the world premiere of Love Opera 2019 which gave audiences a captivating inside look at Brisbane’s world-class Lisa Gasteen National Opera School.
Together we’ve been seduced and uplifted by Australian and international filmmakers at the height of their talents.
We’ve celebrated five exciting films that have sprung from the rich and unique creative relationship between director Baz Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin, BIFF 2019 Patrons.
We’ve wondered at the creativity and ingenuity highlighted by emotionally stimulating and thought-provoking documentaries.
We’ve marveled at passionate direction, exquisite performances and immersive soundtracks brought to life on the big screen… and we’ve loved being on the journey with thousands of film-lovers from across Queensland and the world.
And we cant wait to do it all again with you in 2020.
