A captivating film from Jordan following one woman’s struggle with family and the law after the death of her husband.

Thirty-something mother-of-one Nawal (Mouna Hawa, in a captivating performance) works for a wealthy Christian family as a carer. She and her devout Muslim husband have been trying to conceive, but Nawal’s world unexpectedly crumbles when he passes away. Nawal must contend with both patriarchal laws and family tension to keep her only daughter and fight for her independence. Delivering a social realist critique of Jordan’s structural oppression of women and girls and inspired by real events, Inshallah A Boy is a gripping and superbly crafted drama.

Audience discretion is advised: some scenes of violence.
